I tapered off Lexapro and was off it for a week as the Amoryn company told me to do before starting amoryn. well ive been on amoryn for only three days but i feel like my world is crumbling. I am even more emotional, angry, irritated, weepy, depressed, hopeless etc. you name it. I feel like my world is crumbling. I dont know if its cause of my Lexapro withdrawal and my body is freaking out cause it doesnt have something to help it yet or if its the amoryn. I hope that once i get used to amoryn and increase to 4 pills after two weeks that things will get better. I cant live like this. anyone have any experience or anything to share with me? what should i do? keep with amoryn and wait a few more weeks? is this common? ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hi Karalyn,
I did the same switch you did but I did things slightly different. As I tapered off the lexapro I slowly started to add one pill of amoryn. I did this over the course of about a week. After I was off the lexapro altogether I still did expereince about one weekend of "damn this sucks" I crashed but came through.
Currently I am off the amoryn and taking GNC's since I feel the amoryn contains an odd amount of hyperforin (5%) which is hard to compare to the therpautic 300mg x 3 dose they recommend at a lower amount of hyperforin. Also it contains large amounts of B-6 and B-12 which I already get in a b-complex and the b's tend to work better together. It also contains 5-htp which I have read does not really do what people think it does when not combined with another chemical. Alone I have heard 5-htp stays in the blood stream as opposed to turning into serotonin in the brain.

GNC's are a chain of vitamin/supplement stores here in the US (sorry forgot I was on a British based board)
I don't know if amoryn is worth it, but then again the $30 (US currency) is a rather small price to pay for peace of mind.
As far as 5-htp, I'm not sure if its going to make a diffrence or not - Amoryn claims the included b vitmains enhance the conversion process or absorption of the chemical into serotonin -- while others claim 5-htp does not convert to serotonin in the brain (rather stays in the blood) unless there is another added ingredient (can't think the name)
I took amoryn for about a month and have just switched over to the GNC brand -- If I were you a would look for Perika which sounds more easily accesible overseas than in the states.
In addition to the SJW, I take a 50mg B-Complex, 500 mg Vit C, a multi vitamin, 3 grams Fish Oil, a calcium/magnesium/zinc complex (supposedly good for anxiety)and 50 mg of Ginko Biloboa. Not sure which of these work for me but I do feel better than when I bottomed out a little over a month ago. I'm still not where I would like to be but I'm getting there. Make sure you are eating a balanced diet and excersing as well.
Whatever you do try to stay away from the Lexapro -- I am convinced it worsened my depression while adding anxiety and thoughts of the "s" word. While I had more energy it was nervous energy and the sexual side effects alone were enough to drop the drug. Then again everyone reacts differently.
Hope all this info helps and I'm not confusing you even more -- I'm not claiming I have answers only my own experience.

Hey, actually I'm in the U.S. I just didnt know what gnc's were. I guess i should though huh? did lexapro make you feel worse when you were on it or after you got off? i felt mostly okay when i was on it. i just dont want to rely on a prescription and my insurance option will run out in like 6 months so im trying to think and plan ahead. how long did it take to know if amoryn worked for you? days or weeks? I apreciate your responses. thanks again!

hey, what are GNC's? yah im hoping that this will pass and get better. Im surprised that you added amoryn while still on lexapro. is amoryn worth it? how long were you on it? about what you said regarding 5HTP, im a little confused. but are you saying that it is actually good that it is in amoryn and not taken alone? that now it will be more effective? I have depression and GAD. were I to take SJW alone or something like that besides amoryn do you think that would work? i have a lot of questions. thanks though.
