"Insomnia from Perika; any good alternatives?" , Sun 14 Dec 09:39:

I took Movana for a couple of years with great results. It was particularly helpful with sleep--literally within a few minutes of taking it at night, I would fall into a very restful sleep and feel very refreshed in the morning. I have had insomnia most of my life, and the Movana was godsend.

Unfortunately Movana was discontinued a couple of years ago, and I recently depleted the stash I had. Everyone seems to recommend Perika as the current best SJW, and one would think it would be identical to Movana since they both use WS-5572. But I have tried Perika for a week and found that it does nothing for my insomnia--if anything, it makes it worse. I can fall asleep fine, but when I wake up I feel as if I have not slept at all. I have no idea why the Movana and Perika would have such drastically different effects on sleep.

I have seen a few messages on this board from people who had trouble sleeping when taking Perika. Does anyone have suggestions for an alternative that does not interfere with sleep, or that even helps it? I actually take SJW primarily for its help with my sleep, so I am very distraught. I have already tried Kira and the non-Perika Nature's Way brand and neither helps.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I will take it that you have already tried other ways of fighting the insomnia before you found Movana. You also tried other brands of SJW, so that would hopefully eliminate the possibility of Perika's Hyperisure method and the vitamin C added to it causing any problems. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is what was the lag time between the Movana and the Perika (and other SJW)? Also, if you can remember, was there any time involved from when you started taking Movana to the time to you started sleeping well? Maybe it's just going to take some time for your body to start processing Perika.

The difference between the Movana and Perika (again, this is with respect to insomnia, not mood) is immediate. If I take one Movana before going to sleep, I feel great when I wake up. If I take one Perika or a half of a Perika (I've also tried splitting the Perika in half, thinking perhaps it is too "strong") before going to sleep, I feel terrible when I wake up. There doesn't appear to be any "ramp up" period for the effect on sleeping.

I did consider sticking with the Perika longer than a week, in case my body just needed to get used to it, but after a week of not being able to sleep, I wasn't too excited about trying longer...
