Topic Title: 5htp and headaches

Hi My name is Kristen I am 22 years old and I am a University student. I have a question about my condition. Last year I was diagnosed with depression and put on Paxil. After gaining 30lbs I went off. I needed something to keep me from going back into a depressive state. I went on 50mg of 5htp a day. That helped me and got me through the summer, but with the anticipation of returning to school I became extremely anxious and depressed for about the past 2 weeks. So I uped my dose of 5htp to 100mg. Now I feel better, calmer, sleep better, but I have a dull headache that has persisted for the past 4 days, ever since I uped my dose. I am kinda scared this is going to last. Tylenol sort of solves the problem but I am wondering if these headaches are normal and will go away? Thanks So Much for reading this long post! Kristen

How did you come about taking 5-HTP in that dosage? How long have you been on it? Why did you choose 5-HTP over SJW? I know it's been a while since you posted this. Have you tried anything else in the meantime?

Hi yeah actually I was on the recommended dossage of 5-htp (1 Tab a day at 50mg. That worked wonders for about 2 months. Then suddenly, and with some added life stresses it seemed to stop working. So I increased it to 100mg a day. And I did try SJW and was on it for about 2 months with no improvement. My dad has depression and has used SJW everyday for a couple years with very good results. Your right it has been a while since this post and I have tried to go back on AD's this was on the advice of my doctor and therapist. I am no Celexa 30 mg a day plus a diet change and exercise. This has seemed to help me. I hope its only going to get better from here.
Thanks for replying! :) Kristen

Kristen,
I'm glad to hear that things are working out for you. Keep us posted as how you are doing. The exercise will help your stress levels, too. Keep it up!
