"perika? anyone NOT like it?" , Thu 21 Aug 15:04

Hi..

I have been taking Nature's way perika for about 3 months.. and I have decided to switch back to Nature's resource.. despite the discussions and explanations about how great it is.. I think it may be more potent, which is great.. but for some reason.. it has made me MUCH MORE groggy than the nature's resource brand.. this grogginess makes me crankier.. which does me no good.. also.. I haven't seen anything more positive (which is what I was hoping for..). than when I took the nature's resource.. I was hoping the increased potency would be beneficial.. but all i am feeling is more lethargic.. maybe it's just too potent for me?..I dunno... oh.. I forgot.. I am also much more disorganized and..well.. more forgetful.. while on the perika.. for instance today i went to the store to pick up a few items.. almost past up the store.. got in the store .. then could only remember two of the items I needed!.. I am doing "spacey" things much more frequently..

Anyone else had this happen with the perika?.. i tried taking it different times of the day..etc. much didm't see much change.. I think my sleep pattern is so tight that I feel like after 8 hrs of sleep I am being yanked out of bed in the middle of the night (even though I'm not).. and sets the tone for the day..

also.. my libido has decreased significantly..

anyway.. at least I know the Nature's resource was okay. so I think i'll see what happens if I go back to that brand..

any comments or thoughts would be appreciated..
H

Holly,

I have been taking the perika just a few days and feel the same way. I have had a very busy week but still am averaging 8 hours sleep each night - however, I still feel tired. That also makes me very cranky! I wondered if the crankiness is a result of the higher potency? Will it go away once my body gets used to it? I am willing to give it more time if anyone thinks it may help. Advice please!!??

Thanks,
Denise

Hi,
I have been taking Perika for about 2 weeks now and have noticed a considerable difference in this brand from other. Mostly what I have noticed is that it brought me out of a real deep depression that had me very worried (I caught it to late this time). I was really hurting and so went searching for "the best". It did seem to bring me back up faster than any time before. Normally if I get really down it is a 3-5 week trip to get back to feeling better on SJW. I used to use Kira then I switched to Walgreen's brand and it worked just fine for me but this time I just couldn't stand taking that long lonely ride back to feeling better. Perika seemed to kick in (did have some ups and downs along the way) much faster than anything I had ever been on before and I was very thankful for that.
I haven't noticed the groggyness or crankyness you mentioned. I have noticed a bit of spaceyness though. Not much..and nothing that I am really concerned about, just a couple of times standing in a room wondering why I had walked in there, lol. But the trade off was worth it.
I have never tried Natures Resourse. How long have you used it and do you really feel there is that much difference to the two brands. I bought some Solaray (one a day 900 mg tabs) which also looks like a high potency product but haven't tried it yet, thought I would save it for the days that I would be busy all day or away and only have to take one tab for the whole day.
I think Perika is a good brand and excellent quality for anyone that is feeling really stuck and needs a lift back to reality, at least this is what it did for me. But I have also read on this forum that some people have not noticed any effect from taking Perika.. so it could just be the individual person and their chemisty that causes the way they react to the different brands of SJW. Good luck to you. Chris

I LOVE PERIKA - that is why i chose it for my username. I have been taking it for 3 months and I have no depression anymore :-). I have suffered from depression my entire life and will probably stay on St. John's Wort for the rest of it. The bottle recommends 900mg per day. But I found, for me at least, that 1800 mg works best. I take 2 at breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is best to take with food. I missed one half day of taking it and began to feel that sinking helpless feeling I was all too familiar with. I also recommend excercising regularly and developing a solid spiritual life to round you out. I hope this post helps someone. If you have any questions just ask.

hi perika..

I should have clarified that my post was not intended to trash perika at all. . or to somehow keep people from trying that brand... it's just that it seems that it has been lauded as so good. yet I wasn't acheiving the benefit..

Shortly after I posted.. I tried something new.. i started taking my 900 mg.. in the morning .. after breakfast.. all three pills at once.. this seems to work a bit better.. why I'm not sure.. I had previously tried taking one each in the am.. at lunch and after dinner.. but I felt tired.. then I tried two at night one in the morning.. but I think what was happening was that my sleep was so "tight" and strong.. that when I woke up (after sleeping too much ,,btw..).. I was still groggy.. thruout the day... so that's why I tried the morning.. although I had to do it after eating.. because my stomache was upset when I tried it before eating..

I also wanted to ask you or anyone.. does one's weight etc.. have anything to do with dosage?.. I only weigh 112 pounds.. .. would it be dangerous for me to up the dosage past the 900 "traditional"..?.. or does it have to do more with severity of depression?.. etc.. just curious..

thanks for everyone's comments..

In a nutshell.. I am going to stick with the perika afterall , taking them in the morning for now.. I'll update how this works out at a later time.. if anyone is interested..

I have been taking Kira for quite a long time 7yrs.(Just got back on it after running out and taking a Walmart brand and sinking big time, then having to take Lexapro (another story)) and have had to take 3 at one time in the morning. Taking it later in the day seemed to make me have insomnia.

I am going to try Perika. I hope it doesn't make me groggy or
cranky. What do you mean by 'tight' sleep?

thanks! klm

HollyR - The Minimum dosage of Perika is 900mg. I believe raising the dosage depends on more factors than a person's weight and size. A lot of it has to do with how low or down a person is feeling. The belief is that it is safe to take dosages as high as 3600 mg of St. John's Wort. 900mg was not high enough for me. So I upped my dosage to 1800mgs. I take 2 tablets with each meal and this is sufficient. Please note that the higher the dosage the more chances of having sunlight sensitivity occur and vision could be effected. Best of luck.
