Topic Title: Nature's Way St. Joh's Wort (Standardized)
| | "Nature's Way St. Joh's Wort (Standardized)" , Fri 20 Jun 19:50
Have a question re: Nature's Way St. John's Wort. I have been off Paxil for 2 weeks now. I did not have many problems getting off of it, just usual dizziness, etc, and am very thankful. I was treated for mild depression. Anyway, I went to my local Health Food store and bought the Nature's Way capsules and wanted to know, before I opened the bottle, what folks thought of it, or if it was recommended. Any advice would be much appreciated. By the way, love this site! After reading through all the stories and discussions, it gave me the strength to quit Paxil!! Thank you!

I strongly recommend Perika from Natures Way. It is absolutely hands down the best St. John's Wort product out there. It is standardized with 3% Hyperforin and it has a patent in Germany to ensure that the Hyperforin remains stable and does not deteriorate over time. You can buy it at vitacost.com

Hi,
Nature's Way Perika has an excellent reputation. By all reports, this product is of an extremely constant, high quality. I think it is actually produced by Willem Schabe (sp?), a large German pharmaceutical company that supplies SJW to the German market.
As you may know, SJW is regarded as a prescription drug in Germany. Thus, there are quite strict guidelines in that country to ensure consistency of quality, with certain standard, patented extraction methods being required by the regulatory authorities.
I don't know that much about this, although I think it's interesting. If anyone knows where there's a good article on the subject, please share the URL.
It's all a bit different in Australia and the USA, where anyone can call almost anything by any name they want, and you really have to investigate the integrity of the product you use.
(Minor rant: That's not such a bad thing! Empower yourself through knowledge! Take responsibility for your own treatment! Okay, rant finished.)
I think Nature's Way also have a few other SJW products besides Perika. I don't know so much about these, but I did see a consumer guide review that rated the company very highly for providing accurate information and maintaining high manufacturing standards, with particular reference to its SJW products.
