"Efexor - XR" , Sun 8 Jun 06:18

Hi, i have been having efexor-xr for almost 2 years. I am 31 years old (so i was 29 when i started). My doctor sent me the a psychologist to figure out what was really worng. In the last 10 years, i got sick 3 times in the middle of winter (i am in Aust), The illness started with the sore throat, and then got soreness on the left side of me head and neck. During the illness, i used to have unreal feeling in my head, and I was sleeping 22 out of 24 hrs. I was also very hungry all the time. I also felt that i could not concentrate and was "not feeling like doing anything" This all used to go away in 2 weeks. My most recent episode lasted 13 weeks. I was off work etc, and was feeling low, hence decided to go and see my GP. He was the one who referred me to the Psychologist.

The psychologist had 3 sessioons with me, and came to the conclusion that i was anxious and maybe a little ?? depressed. He recommended Efexor- XR 75 mg once a day. That did not seem to be making any difference in 2 weeks, and then we went up to 150mg daily. I am feeling much better. As for the side effects, i have not experienced any.

I am back leading an effective life. I used to go to the GYM when i was bit younger, but never did for a little while. I am very very happy. I never want to get off the drug, even if i have to be on it for rest of my life.

I have never tried SJW as there are too many interaction with ther drugs (not thati am taking any drugs).

Pls provide me some feedback.

People EFex is a new drug. As far as im concerned it has stopped my self destrustive behaviour. Excuse spelling>>>> Now as side effects go you had to know there would be some ,The drug is effecting the most complex system of your body its inteliengince period <IE efexor. It effex all low and high brain function.... If you thought you could take this drug and your probs would lessen your wrong. First off if your sleeping 22 hours ot of a day depression is the least of your problem, sounds like your body is not making vitiman D. Or you have some blood work that need to be done. YOU do sound Depressed but its not sitituational depression, thats good!!! Relax dont think EFex can solv it. Im not sure but there might be a wieght issue and Im sory if im wrong! You are 110 or 250. either way you r an extream. Be advisied EFex is be handid out like candy that dosent mean it dosent work. Very smart people made this drug..Now let me tell you of my side efex. I have been trying to kill my self since I was 18 but love mr my parents made me indure, not to mention police/ paramidic. I have the scars and not on my wrists to prove my weak moments . It dont take nothin to off yer self but to face the pain as I know you all readin this have is .....hard. Efexor gives me twiches and seizures, it makes me sweat like a pig at nite, I dream of deamons trying to kill me and satan makin noises that that wake you fightin for you life. BUT I also have dreams of the most beautiful music. Relationships with people ill never meet, that I love. I have seen worlds, islands that dwarf any thing I know. I remember everything about them. the smells the wind , the laughter. I see and feel them when I sleep... When I can sleep. Efex gives me peace and terror but if I concentrate when I go to bed I can deal with most. This isnt a rec drug .It for people whos brains are makin less or more of a Chem that is needed. I have never done drugs, Im not a junkie.. This drug keeps me from killig and dying. I hope some of this made some impact on you, All ways know what to expect.

I'm glad you have had such a good result from Effexor, and especially that you have had success in treating your anxierty/depression at such an early age.

I do need to correct you on a couple of things though. You said that you aren't "taking any drugs". What is Effexor? When doctors say "drugs", they usually mean prescription pharmaceuticals like Effexor.

As for SJW interactions, I think you should consider the even longer list of interactions that Effexor has:

http://www.accessmednet.com/prescription-drug-information/effexor-venlafaxine.html#interactions

Of course, if you aren't taking any other medications, then these interactions won't affect you.

Interactions are nothing to be scared of. It should be expected that some drugs share the same biochemical pathways. Usually this will mean that the two substances compete (e.g. Effexor and warfarin) and will reduce each other's effect. This is not a dangerous situation as long as you are under medical supervision.

If you are happy with Effexor and are not experiencing side-effects then there is probably no reason to change for now.

Hi thanks for the link. yes, i am aware that i am taking efexor-xr, so maybe my quote was a bit out of place. Anyway, I was just thinking of how it would be to be off the drug.
But, I am someone who believes in qualify of life and not quantity. I ritually take my 1 tab each morning with a multi vitamin, and i don't think about it untill the next morning. As long as thins works and i live till 70 hell, who really cares.Right!!.

You gotta enjoy life and never take anything for granted.

"Re(1):Efexor - XR - SJW withdrawl?" , Sun 8 Jun 16:57

I was on Effexor XR for 3 or 4 years without any side effects but when I went off it to try meridia I suffered serious withdrawls..... it was horrendous and worst of all my doctor didn't even know that this could happen. He thought it was all in my mind....to add insult to injury. I don't know how these drug companies can get away with selling drugs and not putting a protocal in place to help people get off their drugs (I guess that's not what motivates them but still doctors should be educated about what can happen and NOT advise their patients to go cold turkey off the drug).

I'm wondering if it could be the same thing when going off SJW? I'm thinking of trying it as I'm feeling less and less able to cope and am getting unbelievably miserable. I just don't want to end up in the same situation....

Have taken Venlafaxine since Setember.2 or 1 (mostly2) 37.5mg tablets a day. Have taken ordinary SSRIs in past, with mixed results, and have had no real probs when have stopped taking them. Took what I hoped was last V tab on Weds of last week, and had to be off work today as side effects have been so unpleasant. Bit naughty to stop but didn't expect it to be so bad and had timed it so would feel bit ill over weekend.Took 1 pill today as have to get back to work and have reports to write.Am teacher.Felt v physically ill.Whooshing feeling in head, nausea, dizziness, numb hands and feet, and yesterday lips to point where felt was slurring. Should have prob cut down more gradually, but as said have not had big probs b4 Situation which led to depression and anxiety has improved and would think that could try to stop taking these.
Don't think that I'm a wimp over illness, and expected to feel rough, but not that ill. Thought withdrawal had stopped yesterday morning, just for it to start all over again. Still don't feel brill. It says that withdrawal lasts for a few days. Do u know what"few" means?!
Would be really interested to know how u got on. Am wondering if swapping to prozac initially may help, as I have come off those fairly easily. Trouble is that these do s thing to adrenaline don't they.
Sorry rambling. Hope u r fine.

According to everything I have read and been told by my doctors, one is or is not inclined to depression. If you are, you should find something that works and stick to it. Should a diabetic consider getting off insulin, I think not.
