"Perika vs. Solaray" , Sat 7 Jun 10:49

Hi.. I have been lurking here for awhile and have noticed a lot of good reporting on "Perika" brand.. I notice the issue of the extraction "WW-5572" discussed quite a bit too... So I ordered some.. thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and knowledge.. I appreciate it... Also.. I had someone in the business recommend Solaray... it guarantees 4% Hyperforin..... does this mean it is processed similarly to Perika?... (ie WW-5572)?.. is there anyway to find out?.. (website didn't say anything).. Also the man that I spoke with (owns an herb/vitamin store).. (allegedly) referring to discussions he's had with the chemists etc..who brew the stuff (for lack of a better phrase)..
he recommends solaray because they use 1. the whole flower/plant of St. John's wort (as opposed to part of the plant).. where many brands don't.. and 2. they use a "blend" of different batches.. which are then tested for potentcy etc... (in other words they use different plants grown in different areas.. not just one source)... anyway he claims that his customers regularly come back for solaray.. but that he does not see many regularly use Nature's way (either Perika or other)... It's not that I want to doubt him.. but I'm trying to determine if Solaray IS really a good brand... maybe even better than Perika.. ? or not..

Any thoughts?.. or perhaps a link or something with some more info???

thanks...

Holly

Sorry! I may have mixed up Nature's Way and Nature's Resource.
I don't have the info in front of me. One is a brand Wal Mart carries.

My physician's herbal reference book doesn't list Solaray as
a good brand ie: reliable/consistant level of hyperforin
It does, however list Perika, Movana and Nature's Resource (not Nature's Way)

Thanks...-WS-- not WW.. : 0 )

Actually... I was all psyched to buy the Perika.. and I went to two stores.. one a GNC.. and the other the herb store I originally mentioned.. and neither had Perika in stock..PLUS.. neither employee knew anything about Perika.. nor had they even heard of it.. -- so I said to heck with them... and ordered a couple of bottles of the Perika online (can't wait to get them.. )

in the mean time... since the second store owner was nice enough to give me his "two cents".. and spent some time with me.. I did purchase a bottle of the solaris... although I have a hunch they promote that particular brand.. over any other..so that was the REAL reason he wanted me to buy it.. (I also noticed after I got home and looked up the mfr website.. that I was charged about $1 (US) more than the mfr's recommended price.. grr..)

One thing he said to me is something I do believe.. and that is "the proof is in the pudding"... HIS point was that he has a lot of regular customers who are satisfied with the solaris brand... . MY point on that is that there seem to be a lot of folk here who have had success with the Perika..

Anyway thanks for the reply and I look forward to any other information that may be posted on the subject..

I also hope to post my progress as it happens : 0 )

It's WS-5572 WS stands for "Willmar Schwabe".

We might be getting into small differences here, so I'll just be brief. If Solaray is standardised to 4% hyperforin, then it is probably going to be similar (but not identical) to Perika. Both will be excellent choices.

On the specs alone: if Perika was available from the same store, and money was not a factor, I'd chose Perika over Solaray. I wouldn't use any of the other arguments put forward, because I don't put any stock in them. There is no way I would accept that Solaray is better than Perika on any metric (except for price). As good maybe, better no.

Hope that is clear enough.

I swear by Perika from Nature's Way and feel no need to try any other brand. It saved my life! I noticed a lift from my depression the very same day I started taking it. I went online and bought 10 bottles of it because many vitamin stores do not carry it. PERIKA is very popular in Germany and has not quite caught on in the USA yet. You can buy it online...just do a good search. Best of luck to all.
