Hi, I started using SJW a couple of weeks ago to ease stress and so help me sleep better. Seems to be working ok. I started with Kira St Johns wart with 300ug hypericum per tablet but after reading the boards in here have switched to Power Herbs 500 mg SJW powder per tablet. So it seems that im getting 1500 ug now as opposed to 900 ug with the Kira one. Does this mean the better one is the power herb brand? or is there a difference between Gently dried LI164 extrac and powder extract?

You are getting the units confused -- a very common problem when it comes to SJW.
A couple of things first. "SJW powder" and "LI164" are red-flag words ... if you see them, don't buy the product. LI160 is the normal extract used in successful clinical trials.
SJW powder is just filler. SJW extract is what you want. The Power Herbs product is potentially useless in terms of its active content.
As Sez said, you aren't really getting a proper dose from your current products. Healthspan seems to measure up well, and Quest has been another common UK recommendation here. Both will deliver 300mg of SJW extract per tablet, standardised to the right levels.

I'm not certain but that doesn't sound like youre taking enough - you need to take one with 900mcg of hypericin, 3 times a day, or the equivalent.
If you're after a cheaper UK brand than Kira, try either Holland and Barrat's (check the labelling, they do two strengths), or from www.healthspan.gg , the ones i use, which are very cheap and give great customer service :)

Ive never seen the 900 figure on the bottles, but will have a look around. Great, Just been to the healthspan site, excellent, much cheaper and a full explanation of what you are getting. So I ordered some.

yeah, its difficult to get hold of the correct strength here, since for some reason in the UK a much lower dosage than most other countries use is recommended...
essentially, Kira's 'one a day' is the right strength.. if you take THREE a day, which works out very expensive. Hopefully the healthspan will work as well for you as it did for me :)

i been taking naturesaid brand SJW's and on my second 90 tab bottle seems to work just fine, no noticable side effects.
Also the tablets are 500mg extracts.
