I'm so confused, I thought I had all this dosage stuff worked out but maybe I haven't.... I have just had someone tell me (after I have just bought some) that Kira St Johns Wort is weak compared to others and that to get the recommended amount of hypericin I would need to take 9 tablets a day. This is the Kira 3 a day 300mcg). Can anyone steer me in the right direction.

I have just read some of the older posts and found this to be true of Kira, I also queried the dosage and hypericin value with the health shop salesperson, she was not in agreeance with what I was trying to say but what can I say we each have our own opinions but I was lucky enough to be able to swap them for another brand. So I decided on Blackmores, the dosage seems correct. I also asked my friend to work it all out for me too (as they where the one who picked out that Kira was quite weak compared to the others). So here goes, yet another trial and error process, hopefully I find the right one for me soon.

I gather you are in the UK? This is a known problem with the Kira tablets that are marketed there. I've even raised the query with Lichtwer UK (the manufacturer) and they have admitted that their UK product is the weaker form. The stuff they sell there as One-a-day is the good stuff, only you need to take 3 of them  And then it just gets too expensive.
Blackmores is a great brand for SJW. I didn't realise it was sold overseas? Hmm, maybe you are not in the UK then?

Hey Epyx. Yeah I am finding Blackmores pretty good so far. It is about middle of the line price wise. NZ$18.00 for 40 tabs. I'll see how it goes I may try something else yet, like 5htp. Pretty cheeky that Kira are so week after they are the guys that did all the so called clinical trials.
I am actually in New Zealand, born in the UK but moved out to NZ with my family when I was a teen.
We have quite a variety of brands. SJW is probably not quite so widely used over here though so info is sometimes limited. Although people are really starting to opt for the natural.

Blackmores is actually one of the best SJW formulations you can get, regardless of price. Price is very misleading with SJW.

Dear Epyx,
I noticed your ringing endorsement for Blackmore's brand of SJW. I am currently taking taking the Kira 'one a day' variey which seems to be receiving mixed reviews.
Any advice on where Balckmores can be obtained?? I live in Liverpool, England.

Blackmore's is an Australian brand, so it's probably not available outside Australia and New Zealand. When I was looking for so-called "research grade" SJW a year ago, I tracked down the same extract in Blackmores and Herron. There's no reason why someone couldn't try the same exercise and discover which products use this extract in other countries (e.g. UK).
Quest and Healthspan appear to be good UK brands according to other users here, although Healthspan's instructions are overly conservative.
Kira "One-A-Day" is a misnomer. It's the same type and strength of Kira tablet that gets sold elsewhere in the world as 3-a-day. One tablet might give some people the results they want, but I think most people should be prepared to take 2 or even 3 of them.
