Topic Title: SJW 450 0.5% Hypercin
| | "SJW 450 0.5% Hypercin" , Thu 8 Aug 11:35
Hello to all, Kelly you have done a fine job on these very informative pages :) and I thankyou for that, My question is this, I bought SJW today at a local heath food store not knowing anything about it, they had many different kinds, and I picked this one Nature's Plus Extended Release as I have of course gone to the web as my source of information to find out things about it. I came accross your page. I have not found anything with this high of a % of Hypercin.... and wondered if maybe I didn't buy quite what I was supposed to, My bottle says to take one pill in the morning and one pill in the evening, which adds up to 900 mgs a day, same as the other, but my bottle gives me the impression that it is manily used for a diet supplement? as it reads Standardized Botanical supplement, and under instructions it reads...As a dietary supplement offering the consistant benefits of exact potency.....please tell me I didn't purchase the wrong thing, I am very confused

I personally have found after trying two different brands that the NATURES WAY St. John's Wort works very well. It has a total of 900mg. And the bottle says you should take 2 pills twice a day. I have found that I only need to take 1 pill twice a day and I can feel a "BIG" difference.

They sound OK, but I'd like to debunk a couple of points.
Firstly, on the website for Natures Plus SJW, they describe the potency as "a minimum of 0.3-0.5%". My understanding of the word "minimum" is that it is the lowest threshold. That means these tablets should correctly be described as 0.3% hypericin. This is exactly how other manufacturers use this term.
Secondly, time-release SJW is a gimmick as far as I'm concerned. SJW already metabolises slowly in the body; all SJW is effectively "time-release".
Don't worry about the "diet supplement" thing. They have to write like that on the bottle as the FDA does not allow them to make therapeutic claims.
The dosage instructions sound fine, so go for it.
