Whatr is the best brand of SJW in the UK? Where can you buy it and how much should it cost?

I'm in the UK too (Brighton, to be exact). I just started taking SJW just over a week ago. I started on Kira 3x a day, but just swapped over to the one a day (same brand) since i was having problems remembering to take the 3rd one each day :-/
These are £14.99 for 30 tablets/a month's supply. They give the strength (900mg or whatever), and theyre pretty widespread, so i guessed they were an OK quality brand.

As I say often here, beware of what you are getting with Kira in the UK. Kira is a great brand, but you are only getting one-third the dose of brands like Quest.
For many people, this will be insufficient SJW to make a difference to their condition.

I started taking SJW 2 months ago. I went to the Vitamin UK website and bought the Power Herb brand (30 x 334mg caps) for £3.25. I took 3 a day to start with but after a week everything felt very far away as if I was detached. I reduced my intake to 2 a day. I felt fantastic for the first time in ages. Then I forgot to order more and hadn't time to order online and wait for them to be delivered. I went and bought the Kira one a day pack. Within a week of taking them I felt down again. Until I read the items on this discussion forum I thought this was because there was something wrong with me and nothing to do with the concentration of the tablets. The Kira ones were £14.99. I'm just about to order more of the cheaper ones which I felt worked better. I'm so grateful for this site!

Really??? I thought the rec. dose is 3x 300mg tablets a day, or a total or 900mg?

This is where people get confused, and understandably because there's lots of 300's and 900's flying around.
A "standard" tablet tends to contain 300mg of standardised extract. In turn, this extract contains 0.3% hypericin, so that gives you 900mcg (micrograms) in a tablet.
If you take 3 standard tablets per day, you will get 900mg of extract and 2700mcg of hypericin respectively. In the UK, Kira only gives you 900mcg of hypericin per day if you follow the manufacturer's instructions.
By the way, this is only true in the UK. Everywhere else in the world, Kira uses standard-strength tablets, identical in composition to what Kira UK calls a "One-A-Day" tablet.

That completely confused the heck out of me (possibly cause im in one of 'those' moods today so my brain feels like cotton wool).
I take the one a day. Am i getting enough, or should i take more?
(new to this so it hasn't started taking effect yet, so i dont know)

....how long is a piece of string, how many colours of string are there and how many materials can string be made from!!!
WOW - what a question!...you don't specify exactly where you are so I'll tell you what the situation is in London - you can buy SJW in healthfood shops (probably the best bet for diversity of brands), boots and superdrug type chemists, some smaller chemists and some large supermarkets (and also directly from manufacturers and from mail order firms).
As far as brands go, I have only tried one which is quest vitamins (can be ordered from their website), it costs UKPOUNDS 14.99 for 150 tablets (sorry about the funny typing but I'm living in Russia at the moment and the keyboard at work doesn't have a pound sign!!) - the doasge is (up to) three a day and I have been taking them for about 5 months now with incredible success.
Of course there are many many others brands available at different strengths dosages etc etc so it's really a matter of trying to decide what will be best for you before you buy some.
Hope this helps at all!

I bought some SJW from Quest :-) . They were having an offer on for 150 tabs for 12.74 including VAT and delivery. So I bought some :-)
I have yet to try them, though. I am still on my 500's. When I finish those, I'll start the Quest ones.
It didnt seem quite so simple when I got the delivery note. It said RSP 14.99 and made no mention of the 12.74 price advertised, but an email sent to me said 12.74 so that it is.

hehehehehe Epyx!!
In Roubles that's about R750 (1 Rouble is about 2p) - therefore when I tell you that half a litre of vodka is R60 and likewise of beer R12, you can imagine what goes on during my friends and my days off over here!!!!!

Half a litre of Vodka for 1.20?! Good heavens :)
What part of Russia are you now in, if you don't mind my asking?
I can second the recommendation for Quest. Much cheaper than Kira and more effective too IMO. The only downer is that I have recently moved and can't find a supplier near here, and their website doesn't seem to take the kind of debit card that I have. Hence getting a renewed supply is going to be a pain, but I will manage :)

Ho Jos:
I'm in Moscow and will be here until next February (after that I might try to go to St Petersburg)...if you're thinking of having a holiday out here (fantastic country) post me a message and I'll act as a tour guide!!! :)
You think you will have problems getting re-supplied with Quest - I shudder to think what will happen if I run out in the next 7 months hehehehe!!!!!

Wow, thanks.
The brand I've got is called FSC, which has:
1500 micrograms of Hypericin "provided by St Johns Wort (hypericum perforatum) Herb" with 500 mg flowers extract "standardised" on 0.3 percent Hypericin
What is the difference between those two quotations?

Hi there:
How many per day does the jar recommend to take??
They seem to be a little more concentrated than my Quest ones (I think - I haven't got the jar in front of me!!)...therefore I'm guessing that they're 2 a day????? - if so you will be getting the same amount of hypericin that I would with 3 tablets.
The difference between the figures you mention is that Hyopericum Perforatum (the SJW plant) is the ingres\dient that the tablets are made from, Hypericin however is the active ingredient in SJW and therefore the more important figure as far as dosage goes....also 0.3 % hypericin is the "standard" concentration in the majority of SJW tablets.
Cheers!
David
PS. Re. the stuff I wrote above to Epyx about alcohol, I wouldn't recommend drinking any (well not much anyway) in the first few weeks of taking SJW - it's fairly common for people to have a reaction between the two (although it appears to only be for the first few weeks...it certainly was with me anyway)!

I had a look at the Quest website and their SJW seems reasonably good value for money.
By the way, you were right, mine are 'two a day'! It was an offer that company had on where you got 40 tabs instead of 30 for 4.99. It still seemed a tad expensive but you say the 300/333 dose is pretty normal then huh? These are 500's.

Yeah I reckon that they're good value for money (as well as being good!!)....your ones sound pretty expensive, but I've always thought that if something works as far as health (and/or happiness) goes you con't really put a price on it.
300mg and 333mg (or many odd quantities in between!) definately seems to be the norm - the good thing about this dosage as opposed to 2 x 500mg is that (especially when you are starting out on SJW) it keeps your mood more stable throughout the day, due to having 2 'top-ups' instead of just one!
