I was reading on a site that if you are on "the pill" that St. John's wart, May cause break-though bleeding. It didnt explain much about. So I was wondering if anyone knew if I should be ok taking this while on the depo shot? I would also like to hear how ppl are doing w/ this, does it make a big diffrence? I have mild depression not bad just mainly down on myself, at times. I really hope I can take this and it works for me. Thankyou Bliss

Did your dr tell you that one of the side effects of the depo shot is depression?

Hi, I dunno about breakthrough bleeding, and I am not entirely sure what 'depo shot' is :) Some studies do seem to suggest that SJW renders the Pill ineffective though. There has been some discussion about this elsewhere on this forum and some people were expressing doubt as to these results: apparently there has never been a documented pregnancy in a woman on the Pill whilst taking SJW. Personally, though, I decided to err on the side of caution and switch to a different method of birth control. It's up to you really :)

Interesting you bring that up Jos. I don't think it's actually been studied yet. The warnings only came out within the last 12 months based on a different drug interaction and the pill warning is more a precaution than a quantified risk at this stage. Hopefully the interaction will get studied soon.

Hi, I went down to a local herbs shop today and spoke w/ someone about the sjw. They said it would be fine to take the SJW, it does'nt have an interaction as say if I was on the pill, and really the interaction w/ the pill is icolated. So Ive just taken my first pill not 5 mins. ago. Iam really excited to see the diffrence. Thankyou for you replies. Reguards Bliss

"Depo" is Depo-Provera, a 90-day contraceptive injection.
I am not on Depo but something called 'Implanon' which is the market replacement for 'Norplant'. (for those of you who don't know it's one rod rather than 6 and it lasts for 3 years not 5).
I shouldn't worry about any problems with that should I??
