Hello. I have not yet started with SJW, but I have been doing some research, and thinking about it for at least a year. I have always been put off by anti-depressants(etc) but I think I can feel comfortable with SJW. I like that it is "natural", and is associated with fewer side-effects. I am wondering if there are any brands that can be recommended(in the US)? Also, am I still able to take a multivitamin safely while using SJW? Can I exercise? What should I watch out for? Any bad experiences with food interaction? I sometimes drink herbal tea, will that be a problem?

Thanks in advance for any help, and I hope to be a regular contributor here. I would love to have a network of support, and I can't wait to share with all of you.

Peace.

Hi,

I can't help with US brand recommendations, but I can tell you that you shouldn't have any problems with food interactions or herbals teas. And yes, exercise is highly recommended :)

Let us know how you get on!

Thanks! I will definitely keep everyone posted. I was also wondering if SJW is addictive at all? I know that prescription anti-depressants are somewhat addictive, and when you stop you go through withdrawl, so I was wondering if SJW was similiar? Take care!

I always feel very uncomfortable recommending brands, but ConsumerLabs publishes a list of 16 brands which passed their quality testing. Check out this message for the list.

You could probably add Perika (Nature's Way) to that list since it's identical to Movana.

I find your info helpful and interesting. I have been on SJW for 17 days now. I am in Canada and started with the Safeway grocery store brand, wasn't comfortable with it having no reputation so I switched to GNC. After researching, I found that the kind that I bought wasn't standardized. I went to the health food store and bought Quest. Does switching brands start you all over again or is there carryover? Also, how much vitamin B's are recommended for high stress lifestyles? After 2 weeks I am seeing a forward movement but the anxiety has just increased at the 2 week mark. Any advise or hang tough? Thanks again for you input, we all appreciate the notes.

Thanks cquin. It's a hard question to answer. Changing brands doesn't have to be like a fresh start, but if the previous brand was particularly ineffective, it may virtually be a new start.

When I first tried SJW, I knew nothing about it and bought capsules with the highest number on them. They turned out to be raw herb. Once I had researched it and found a good brand, the change was quite marked. I later used up my raw herb capsules once I had been using the standardised stuff for a couple of months.

Two weeks is probably still too early to give up. Six weeks is a better guideline, although I know how tough it is to stick out a treatment that you feel isn't working for you!

Re Vitamin B: I don't like to dispense health-by-numbers advice, because everyone reacts differently to therapeutics. Try a reputable multivitamin or experiment with a Mega-B formula. The only guideline I would give is to be careful not to exceed the recommended daily maximums. Some vitamins are toxic in high doses.

Good luck
