Nearing 6 weeks of 300 mg (.3% hyper) 3 times a day. I feel good and am thinking about lowering my dosage to twice a day. It is definitely working.

After reading all the posts below, it sounds like I shold give it a try because I can always ramp back up but it also sounds like we may not need the standard recommended dosage of 300 mg 3 times a day. It also sounds like the lowest dosage that gives us the best results is best.

Sometimes I feel that with any medicine there is a sort of placebo effect. That is, if we think we are getting more medication we have a tendency to feel better. I have heard that blood pressure medicine, even if it is a placebo, will lower ones blood pressure. A psychological effect.

As for SJW, taking more may make one feel better just because we know we are taking more so we expect to feel better. The converse can happen if you start taking less?

Anyway, I want to begin ramping down. I might take 3 pills one day and 2 the next until I am just taking 2 a day.

Any opinions? Suggestions? By the way, I appreciate all of your comments.

Hi Donald, I did the reverse: I started with 2 pills of 150 mg standardized to .3% per day. It worked but I found that I had to up the dose to (usually) 3 per day and occasionally 4. But at 3 per day this is still only half of the "recommended" 900 mg per day at .3%. I know that, even with prescription medications, the "recommended" dose needs to be varied based on the patients weight, age, metabolism, etc. and, because I am smaller than average I probably needed less to start with anyway. Basically, I like your idea: if you reduce the dose and it works great, if not well you can always go back to the dose that was working. Good luck, Leo

Hi Donald;

After about 7 or 8 weeks I made the same decision to go down to 2 a day instead of 3, I still feel fine and actually I often though that for reasons I couldn't really pinpoint that I didn't 'need' the third tablet.

As far as placebos and pychological effects go I agree with what you say, but also would say that in many cases (including mine!) the reduction of dosage works in a similar fashion because you fell that you are somehow on the winning track when you need to take less!! - obviously if you're not ready to reduce dosage, the converse WILL happen and you'll have to start taking 3 again (which as you say is no problem to do).

Regarding reducing the dosage, all I did was reduce overnight and took 2 a day from then on - and it seems to work!

Hope this helps

David
