This is my first time posting a message, but I wanted to mention a consumer report on SJW that I just paid $5 to print off the ConsumerLab.com website. I used to take Prozac, just started on SJW, and wanted a list of SJW brands that had passed supposed strict quality/potency tests. If anyone is interested in the list without having to pay $5 for all 16 brands that passed, I would be more than happy to email it to you. Also, you can go to the ConsumerLab.com website and get most of the information related to the testing and part of the list for free. Good luck, and I hope this helps!

ConsumerLab is a great site. Hope I'm not stealing your thunder here, but the list got posted a couple of months ago when someone was asking about cadmium content in SJW. The "pass" list is:

I found the report a little meaningless for a number of reasons. Firstly, they tested 21 brands and "seven did not pass testing", yet they list 16 brands that "passed"! So there are two brands in that list that fail because of hypericin/hyperforin content.

No thunder stolen, Epyx. Actually, I'm glad the ConsumerLab list has been posted on this site before, and I appreciate you answering dodgerblue's email for me. I've been in bed with the flu for a few days and didn't read it until today. Hopefully other people who missed the first posting of the list will find your posting of it helpful. Thanks again!

Thanks for the list Epyx...Having checked out the site, I realized that there were a few brands that were tested "ad hoc" or after the original testing was done. I believe that is why the numbers of passes and fails don't match up to the original total test numbers. Any other info out there on "good" or "bad" brands?

Ahh, that explains it. I found I had to revise the list I made in the "cadmium" topic and add a couple of new entries. So yes, there used to be 14!
There have been other reports, although you have to be careful with old reports as testing methodologies change and manufacturers improve their raw materials. Vitacost surveyed 8 brands in Feb 2000:

The Boston Globe tested 7 brands in Jan 2000:

Surprisingly, Quanterra did really bad in that one. The LA Times surveyed 10 brands in August 1998:

I wouldn't place too much faith in that article now though; it forced a lot of manufacturers to re-evaluate their supply.
Overall, the best-studied brands are Kira (LI-160) and Movana/Perika (WS-5572).

dodgerblue, I apologize for not getting back to you with the list right away, but I'm glad Epyx picked up my slack and posted it for you. After reading it myself, I decided to stop taking the Spring Valley (Wal-Mart) brand I had just purchased and instead look for Kira. I've noticed it mentioned more favorably than any other brand so far on SJW sites. Take care!
