Well i'm really glad i found this site. I feel better already from knowing others are in the same situation as me. I have been depressed b4 and taken prozac which worked but had side effects.
I recently started taking the contraceptive pill and man did i feel bad. I was so anxious and off the planet!
The doctor reckoned it has no connection with the pill and prescribed Beta blockers, which i find a strange idea. What does anyone else think?
I bought some kira sjw today which is 900mcg per day. is this a good brand and is this the right amount to sort out my depression and anxiety?

I see no reason why SJW shouldn't help you - I have never taken any perscription antidepressants, but was given some by a councillor (after reading the list of possible side-effects I was too scared to [and subsequently didn't]take them). However remember that SJW is known to react with other forms of medicines, especially antidepressants (Prozac, Seroxat etc) - so wait a couple of weeks between stopping one and starting the other - make sure friends/family are around because this period is likely to be very difficult. But when the SJW kicks in after a couple of weeks of ingestion you should feel fine again (and great knowing that the majority of takers don't suffer any serious side effects).
A few hints:
-Ascertain with your chemist/GP that SJW won't interfere with your birth control pills.
-Watch your alcohol consumption (if any) - (see other postings on this forum about this)- In short SJW has a devillish tendency to make one feel like armageddon is coming the next couple of days after you drink any alcohol!! (it also speeds up the effects so that one gets rather drunk on next to no drinks and looks like a teenager in front of friends!!!)
-Finally, stick with it - in the first couple of weeks you may not notice anything, but after this you will start feeling much, much better!

PS - The 900mg should be fine if the concentration of Hypericum (the active ingredient) is 0.3% - it will say on the side of the jar!!

Kira brand worked great for me, and still does, although I seem to only need one tablet a day now, 1/3 the recommended dose. Good luck!
