"5HTP VS tryptophan" , Sun 24 Apr 15:31

I have tried 5HTP in the past for migraines and had success with it for migraines but it had a nasty side effect of making heart go crazy. It felt like my heart was coming out of my chest, it hurt and was really scary! So after going off the 5htp my heart was fine and I did try it again a while later, and the same side effects came back. So I have been on Tryptophan for 3 mos now and I cannot tell that it is doing anything for my migraines. I am taking one 500 mg at night, but am scared of increasing because of the heart palpitations I had on 5htp. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why it isn't working for my migraines like the 5htp did?
thanks!

Hi,
I read somewhere that if you over do it with the 5-HTP(dosage wise) you are courting a heart attack. What you are saying seems to confirm this.

It could be that you were taking too much 5HTP as that can result in a horrible thing called serotonin syndrome meaning too much seretonin is being produced and that can bring on things like heart palpitations etc which is why I am a bit nervous of taking it.
