Topic Title: 5 HTP side effects

I've tried 5 HTP a few times to reduce my syptoms of social anxiety. Each time I have it though, i can only last for a few day because of the side effects.
I feel like my heart beat is faster and irregular (palpitation??) I get a headache and feel kind of foggy and more depressed.
Has anyone else had these sympoms? do the eventually go away. I feel bad putting any undue stress on my body...
Any feedback would be appreciated.

i had the same scary heart racing and palpatations. I think I got on too much too quick. I also didn't allow enough time for the problem to go away. maybe it was my body just adjustin to the 5htp. I will try it again. if you tried toomuch too soon or didn't give the effects enough time to go away, you may want to try it again.

yeah I've gone back on it again. this time I'm taking 30mg (half a tablet before sleep) Day one was a bit strange, headache etc, but day 2 seems alot better. I think I have a more positive outlook already. Still early to tell though and side effects are gone. Heart beat seems stronger but no palpitations and heart rate is quite normal.
I might stay on this dose for a week and gradually up it after next week.
Will let you know how I go.

In my experience... yes, most of the side effects do go away. About all I notice anymore from it is drowsiness, it's a fantastic sleep aid with no grogginess at all in the morning. Seems to promote a better quality of sleep as well.

Hi, I tried 5-HTP a while back (50mg per day) and although I didn't experience any of those symptoms you list, I did end up having serious stomach cramps & nausea from it so I had to stop it.
