Hi, I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who has taken 5HTP for years? I read all about its safety in Europe for years, but then again, that one should not take much because there is no long term study.My chiropractor who suggested its use, doesn't monitor at all and has no info on this.

I have taken 5 htp for 3 years now. I do only take one a day and have a one month break approx twice a year. I was taking inositol as well which I found extremely helpful with anxiety and ocd. I have suffered no ill effects and the 5htp is still working well. I do find that if I try and up the doseage or take 5htp after say 5pm then I do have nightmares, so I dont! I take my dose when I get up. I live in the UK and use the Holland and Barrrat brand which sometimes they occasionly offer half price - so I stock up.

Hi noticed u wee from uk so thought id be cheeky & mail u,how was the initial start on 5-htp? & how bad was yr anxiety before taking it?

I have just bought some 5HTp from Holland & barratt, haven't started using it yet, what dose would you recommend initially? and do you know if it interacts badly with alcohol at all.

Hi Paddyman, You know what? it is still just sitting there unopened, because I got some valium off the net and then started reading that taking valium along with 5HTP could up your serotonin level too much and make you get this thing called seretonin syndrome. I am packing the valium in though and will start the 5HTp this week. Thanks for asking anyway, are you taking 5HTP? Peptom (london).

I've been taking the H & B brand for a month now. 2 caps, as I'm getting into bed.
I seem to be sleeping well but waking early.
Alcohol - no bad reactions but I just don't seem to want to drink as much (-:
