Afternoon everbody,
Im recovering from a 4 year stint of post viral fatigue, bought on by a series of flu like illnesses. My fatigue has gotten better over the years but I do have mild/moderate felings of guilt/sadness/anxiety and at times I have alot of difficulty with congnition & thinking.
After alot of experimentation with supplements Ive noticed that high doses of SAM-E (aprox 800-1000mg) and SJ's wort combined eliminate alot of the these symptoms and gave me massive amounts of mental energy - almost to the point of feeling normal at times (woot!)
As of last night I have added 5htp to the mix to improve my sleep quality but it is making me feel quite drowsy during the day, and I feel as if it may be negatively offsetting the restful alertness that I get from the samE + SJW
Could anyone suggest if these feelings of sleepiness are likely to continue? Does your body take time to adjust to 5htp? I am keen to try the 5htp as SamE is very very expensive. Has anyone taken 5htp and same at different times and preferred samE (or vice versa)
Any feedback would be bloody fantastic!
Aussie John:)

Hi jed, have you checked out if its ok to take those all at once, I would check it out before taking all three together.
I have been taking 5htp for about 3 months now and my sleep is alot better than it has been. I recently came off sleeping tablets after a 5 year stint and found it so difficult as I had become dependent on them. I am finding the effects of 5htp arn't as strong as they where the first few weeks, but maybe thats just that I'm feeling a bit down at the moment and its not helping. Anyhow I would look at those dosages your taking takecare pixy x

Yes it does, and probably the sleepiness will wear off. Best time to take 5-HTP is right before bed, if it makes you sleepy.

Personally, I've found 5-HTP to be the most helpful OTC supplement for depression, by a long shot. Better than SJW and MUCH better than Sam-e. Your mileage may vary of course.
