"5HTP and Paxil for sleep" , Tue 12 Oct 09:29:

I take Paxil as I did not get enough relief the natural route. I feel so much better now but have one major side effect..sleep disorder. I tend to fall asleep around 11 and wake up around 1 or 2 and then cannot fall back into a good sleep pattern. I was thinking of trying 5-HTP but I do not want Seratonin Syndrome..Anyone know if this is safe?

From everything I have read and researched, it would not be safe to mix Paxil with 5-htp. Apparently, if you mix an SSRI like Paxil with 5-htp, you can receive too much seratonin.

unfortunately, that is a very common complaint with Paxil (and other prescribed anti depressents). My mother had been on Paxil for 3 years and had trouble sleeping for the past year. They finally switched her to something called Cymbalta in place of the Paxil and she is sleeping now.
She also gained about 35 pounds on Paxil which is also fairly common and is now seeing some of that weight come off as well.

If I were you, I would definitely tell the doctor about Paxil's effects on your sleep because it will likely get worse.
