Hi all--I recently switched from 1200 mg/day SJW to 150mg/day 5-HTP, because after 2.5 months on SJW, I noticed no positive effect on my mood, and in fact, my thoughts felt strangely more obsessive and worrisome. I know it's probably far too early to tell, but I thought I'd update you all on how it's going.

I have had a good week, and within a day of starting the 5-HTP I noticed that my worrying and negative thoughts were lessened and more manageable. I was actually able to successfully talk myself out of worrying a few times, whereas in the past, it was very hard to do so. In other words, I feel less anxious. I'm not sure if this is due to dropping the SJW, a placebo effect, the 5-HTP, or just a fluke, but I'm eager to keep going and see what happens.

The most notable difference is on my sleep--my God, 5-HTP makes me sleep VERY deeply. I wake up feeling like I just got out of a coma! The first couple of nights I also had very vivid disturbing dreams, but that has not happened since. However, I still feel like I'm having more dreams than before.

I haven't had any stomach problems like some people get from 5-HTP, but my bowel movements lately have been a little different, and I don't know if it's the 5-HTP--they are annoyingly more frequent and smaller. Sorry for the information overload! I will keep you all posted as I go along.
