Hello -
I was taking the recommended SJW dosage till a month ago when I had several simultaneous life situations. At the recommendation of a friend (who is a psychiatrist), I went to see a psychaitrist in my local area. That doctor put me on Remeron 30 mg/ per day.
I am gaining weight on the Remeron and would like to stop. I'm VERY frustrated, having tried no less than 5 other prescription antidepressants over the past few years and all had side effects! The SJW worked fine - except when things in my life when "really" over the top!
Anyway, I'd like to get off the Remeron and try 5-HTP (which my reading suggests has been successfully used by people where SJW alone didn't work). I'd appreciate comments on:
1. How to wind down the Remeron.
2. Recommended 5-HTP brands
3. Recommended 5-HTP dosage. Also - use in combination w/SJW or something else?

I suggest you take it slow coming off remeron, reduce your dose slowly over the next month. I recommend Natures Way brand of 5htp. If you are going to take it alone I would suggest taking 3 doses of 100mg each, morning/noon/night. If you are going to take it along with sjw start with a lower dose, like 50mg 3x/day.

Question though: If I take 5 HTP and SJW together, and I start with the 5 HTP at 50 mg as you suggest, to I still take the full recommended dosage of SJW at the same time?
Or - do I ramp up on 5 HTP for a while, let it get built up, and start taking SJW again with it in a month or so?

I'm not sure, I take just 5htp. From what I've seen from other posts take both at the same time and a lower dose of both the 5htp and sjw.
