I'm taking the Amoryn SJW which also contains some 5HTP, I'm taking 2 capsules a day which makes 50mg of 5HTP. What I'm wondering is there a tolerance effect which builds up after a while of taking 5HTP. I'm 3 1/2 weeks into my Amoryn experiment and it's effect seems to be waning, I have my suspicions that this might be because I am building up a tolerance to the 5HTP and the effect of the SJW hasnt fully kicked in yet. I started to notice my mood lifting 4 days after starting to take Amoryn, this sounds very much like the effect of 5HTP as I've read it starts quite quickly. What do you guys think, and has any one had a tolerance experience??
Respect.........

Try L-Tyrosine or phenylalanine along with your daily dose of 5-HTP.
Michael Murray in his book "5-HTP : The Natural Way to Overcome Depression, Obesity, and Insomnia" (p.78-79) explained that the antidepressant benefits of 5-HTP wore off after a few weeks in certain patients.
Giving the patients precursors L-Tyrosine or phenylalanine restored the effect of 5-HTP. Those two substances also improved the mood of the patients when given alone.

This also happenned to me. I was PERFECT for two weeks then BAM is just stopped working. I think it might actually be that you are taking too much of the stuff. Maybe you are one of those people who need alot less a day. I know some people that only need 5, 10 or 25 grams a day. And I know one woman that said taking 50 grams every other day worked for her. Experiment.

I don't think there is much of a tolerance effect with 5-htp, and if there is it wouldnt happen that quickly. Its probably just in your head. Also, there is a variation in the potency of different bottles of over-the-counter medicines, so you can never be sure exactly what you are getting.
