has anyone experienced elevated anger with 5htp? ok, i'm going to admit this and i hope that i don't get shot down, but i've been drinking with the 5htp, and when i do, i find that i get irritated easily and completely blow things out of proportion. this is a side-effect of alcohol per se, but is the 5htp making it worse??? and especially since i've recently read that 5htp can also elevate anger. any advice will be greatly appreciated. also, the drinking is basically drinks after work - that sort of thing - not binge drinking or anything out of the ordinary.

thank you for your post. I noticed I am irritable the morning after I have drank since taking 5 htp. I will keep an eye on it myself, I am not sure if it is a relationship especially since I am going off of effexor at the same time! But I wanted to thank you for your post anyway. Let us know if it continues, it is always helpful to hear about these things. i am a wine drinker, and certainally don't want to turn into a crab!

I noticed that I had moments of elevated anger when I took 5-htp. The anger was intense and unfounded and did not go away until I stopped taking it. Too much serotonin for me, I guess...
I have been taking rhodiola, a little of sam-e (200 mg), fish oil, calcium & magnesium, vitamin b, and GABA. It seems to work ok for me. There are times I wish I had a little something "more", though I do not know what that is. I am preg right now and I will resume taking kava for my social anxiety once the preg and nursing bit is over. Good luck!

I was edgy for the first few days when I started 5htp. It subsided pretty quick though.
