Topic Title: Can 5-HTP inhibit future Serotonin production

Hello to you all!
I am new to the Forum and new to 5-HTP. In fact, I was looking for info on this supplement and found this wonderful website.
I started taking 5-HTP only days ago and I felt the effects immediately. It elevated my mood and made me happy. It also gave me mild and very manageable side effects.
My only concern is that taking 5-HTP may cause the brain to become lazy and have difficulty producing Serotonin without artificial stimuli.
Any educated opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,

I too have taken 5HTP in the past and have suffered from withdrawl. When I stopped taking 5-HTP I had horrible headaches, memory loss, loss of emotions, and most importantly felt like I couldn't concentrate as well as I could before I took 5-HTP. 5-HTP made me feel smarter, happier, and satiated, but the more I took it the closer the headaches would come when it was leaving my system. I wonder if modifiying your brain with 5-HTP can cause senility in old-age. Any comments?
