if your 5-htp isnt working, it might be the brand. the fda doesnt regulate supplements, so you can never be quite sure what you are getting. make sure you try a few brands before giving up. in my experience, the Natrol brand bottle that comes inside a purple box works great.

"Natrol works well for me. MRM did nothing." , Sun 23 Nov 15:02

Hi-

I would just like to agree with Jimmy's post above. I had been taking Natrol brand 5-HTP with much success for some time, and then I recently tried switching to a cheaper brand called MRM (Metabolic Response Modifiers). I used the MRM brand of 5-HTP for about a week, with disastrous results. It did not seem to have any efficacy at all. All my symptoms came back, and my life went into a tailspin. When I figured out what was going on, I quickly switched back to my regular Natrol brand, and was fine within hours.

I have no vested interest in promoting or disparaging one brand or another, but clearly there are some brands out there that are dubious or just plain fake.

"Has anyone tried Now Foods brand?" , Mon 24 Nov 16:34

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried the Now brand to see if that is a reasonable brand. I personally get the impression that it is doing something for me, but it isn't perfect as I still find myself edgy and still have a hard time concentrating. However it was only $26 canadian for 90 50mg pills, so it seemed like a nice one to try.

I haven't tried the Now Foods brand, and am a bit hesitant after the recent experience. However I know it is cheaper. Has it worked well for you in the long term?

Well, so far it seems to be working quite well. I can feel a definite improvement in my mood and I do seem to sleep more soundly, but I haven't figured out exactly when to take it, because if I take it right before I go to sleep I can't get to sleep properly. It also could be better with my anxiety and lack of concentration. While I have noticed an improvement, I can tell that it could be better. This is at 100mg per day.

I'm planning to do some experiments in the next few months to see if taking B-Complex helps out and I also plan on checking out the Natrol or other brands. There is a food store near by that said they will guarentee their products work, so I will probably go there.

How are things going with the Natrol brand? How much does that cost?

Thanks.
