"Dreams not a side effect of 5-HTP or SJW" , Mon 13 Oct 16:03

I've been reading the posts here and started with SJW 11 days ago and hate the feeling it gives me and being wired when I wake up..so moving on to 5-HTP. Anyway I found when I went on anti depressants that one of the side effects was lessening of dreams or the ability to remember them. Perhaps those of us that were on prescribed meds are just having a rebound effect of going off the drugs and what seem to be vivid dreams are just seeming that way because we were so 'mentally subdued' by the prescribed meds. yea? nay?

Hi Patricia---
I think I can give an objective opinion on this. I've never been on prescription anti-depressants. I've just began taking 5-htp 3 days and for the last 3 days, I don't even remember having dreams. Usually I am a vivid dreamer and can remember all the details when I wake up. Sometimes, if the dream is good, I can even force myself back to sleep and and pick up where I left off. For the last 3 days, I haven't been dreaming or if I have the sleep has been so good that I don't remember anything. I hope this helps. Maybe it just effects everyone differently. I know I was concerned when I read the one person's comments that spoke of really bad nightmares. So far so good, but then again it's only been 3 days. I'll try and keep you posted. Good luck to you........

Thanks for your input. Seems you are a lucid dreamer and can control your dreams and even pick up where you left off! wow!

Yes, since I am new to 5-HTP any input is gratefully accepted.

For me prescription anti-depressants and anti-anxiety just shut down the dreams to a minimum and when I'd either forget to take them (one would think with the negatives that come with that you'd never forget after the first time, but it does happen)I'd have one heck of a night with usually persecution dreams, just like the flood gates opened. I'm a bit upset with the doctor that set me on the path of the klonopin as I am addicted to it now, even tho I am now mainly down to one before bed along with my Elavil and 5-HTP (I have cut my Elavil from 150mg to 50mg and hoping I can bye bye it in the future with 5-HTPs help)
I know I've slipped when I start having those 'back in school' dreams where you can't find the classroom or aren't prepared for a test etc. I hate those more than the boogey person is trying to catch me!!
I am being quietly optomistic about 5-HTP at this point. After those 11-some days of SJW this is like sliding instead of making a rock climbing decent down the mountain. The best to you also.

Hi Patricia----
I wish I knew more to tell you about the dream thing. Saturday will be a week for me on the 5-htp. I still haven't been able to dream, but I'm not complaining, because my sleep has been much more restful. I only wish it didn't make me so tired all the time. I feel ready for bed every night by 8pm. I hope my body will adjust soon. If I ever hear of any other info., I'll be sure to keep you posted. My best wishes to you!!! Taking new medications is always a scary thing to me because you never know how your body is going to react to the foreign chemicals and everyone responds so differently. Good luck.....
