Hi. I just found this web-site. very cool. i just began taking 5-htp. today. i'm taking it, because i've been worried,tense and anxious lately. i hope it helps. i noticed a lot of you have been taking it for insomnia. i have the opposite problem. i'm tired all the time and can't seem to get enough sleep. is 5-htp going to make me even more tired? god, i hope not. i've kind of lost interest in a lot of things that normally are fun or interesting to me. i've never had this problem before, but a lot has happened to me personally in the last 3 years and i think it's finally taking it's toll. i'm taking 1 100mg capsule in the am and the same in the evening. any suggestions, warnings or success stories would be great. thanks.

Hi,

Isn't this web site just the best. I started to take 5htp almost 12 months ago. I took it for similar reasons to you, general fatigue and then not able to go to sleep.

What I do these days is take 5htp before I go to bed. In the morning I take SAM-E and another SAM-E at lunch time. If I am having a particularly busy day I will also have a Rhodiola in the morning although I don't seem to be able to take Rhodiola because it gives me like a ringing in the ears sensation.

Hey Misch---
Thanks for responding to me. Yes, the web site is very cool. I've been taking the 5-htp for 3 days now and I'm feeling better. My mood has definitely elevated and I'm less tense. I'm only taking 100 miligrams in the morning. Do you mind me asking how many miligrams you're taking and how that effects you? Have you found that taking it at night is better than taking it in the morning? One down side so far is that I'm feeling very tired, more so than usual and I can't stop yawning. Did this happen to you? Do you think this will go away when my body adjusts to the med? It's great to have the knots in my neck loosening up. It gives me a bit of a gaseous stomach as well. That's a small price to pay though. What is Rhodiola? I've never heard of that. I've heard of Sam-e, but I don't much about that either. Is it similar to st. john's wort? Well, so far 3 days and I'm going to stick with it. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks again for responding and God Bless to you as well. Take care :-)

Hey Snuffles,

Everyone is different hey. I originally took 100mg at night before I went to bed, then I sensed in my body that this was too much, can't remember why, a fuzzy head or something. Now I take 50mg. Interesting that you say that it loosens up your neck. That is actually why I take it apart from it giving me a better sleep, it takes the pain out of my back.

SAM-E is good for a lot of things if you can afford it. It is basically a seritonin suppliment the same as 5-htp although I find it gives me more of a natural uplift feeling. It is also good for your liver and aparently good for all of the cells in your body in general.

Not to sure about the science of Rhodiola. What I can tell you is that it gives me a totally switched on feeling. A good way to describe it is, I don't know if you have ever felt this way, but anyway. You know when you may be standing in a group with some people and your sort of standing by yourself a little because you don't know them well and you get that self conscious feeling. If you have had Rhodiola in that situation you don't feel self conscious at all and the thought of feeling self conscious is like totally impossable.

The only thing with Rhodiola is that one every second day is plenty enough for me. I seem to get like a buzz in my head if I have it too often. In small doses though I think is a really effective energy boosting suppliment.

Hey Misch---
I think I'm going to switch to 50miligrams and start taking it at night as well. The 100 miligrams does make me feel a little fuzzy and taking it in the morning makes me really tired all day long. I'm going to try it your way and see if it makes a difference. Does switching the miligram dosage have a funky effect on you?? I'll keep you posted. How much does the sam-e cost?? I might want to look into that as well. Rhodiola sounds like something I may want to pass on. Although I can totally relate to the self conscious feeling one gets standing in a room full of strangers and feeling like you don't fit in. Do you know how sam-e is on your kidneys? I have a history of kidney stones. It sounds like you've really found a combo that works for you. You're lucky. Thanks for all of your advice. I wish I could reciprocate more, but I'm so new to all of this. Thanks a lot. I really appreicate it. I feel like I am doing better. I hope you're are doing good as well.
