I have just ordered some 5htp. Can anybody let me know if the effect is more immediate than that for say St John's wort or conventional antidepressants. Or does it have to build up in the body and take a few weeks to have an effect?

I noticed a difference after about 3 or 4 days. I am taking 100mg per day with SJW. I take it for anxiety/panic. I am now in my 5th week and I am feeling much more "in control" of my life in many ways. Not perfect, but better none-the-less. Missigus

How is it going so far with the 5-HTP?? It was like immediate for me. I was taking SJW 900mg at bedtime and then was having such a difficult time of it and tried to space it during the day, but I fell into a really bad episode and after 11 days I switched over to 5-HTP = 200mg a day. One 50mg before breakfast and around lunch and 100mg before going to bed. What a difference. I sleep quietly, awake with little or no anxiety. I will have to proceed with the 5-HTP for a bit before I can say it is set in stone that the effect I had was from the 5-HTP and not just the release from that wired tired feeling I got from SJW...but before the SJW and the reason I started it, was I could see I was in a depression and suffering anxiety, so I am leaning towards the positive feelings are due to the 5-HTP.

Can you write to me at [email protected]. I am interested in hearing how the 5-HTP has now been with you since you have been taking it. I am taking Perika SJW and on occassion Valerian for Anxiety but would like something a bit more regular to take with the SJW as in 5-HTP...
Can you tell me how it has worked for you...
