I got the "Mood Cure" book you recommended to another on the site. I read it and was not surprised to find i tested "positive" for all 4 types of depression. I have been following the diet and taking the supplements together for one full week. As per her suggestions, I am taking tyrosine and DLPA in the mornings, 5htp mid afternoon and bedtime, and GABA at bedtime, plus vitamins and fish oil. So, have you followed any regimen from "Mood Cure"? Was it effective? How long did it take to kick in? I am feeling somewhat better some of the time, but not all. I have some concerns with taking the aminos that function as boosters because excessive agitation is one of the issues I am trying to overcome. I wonder if these will aggravate that? I would just like some input from someone else who has tried the recommendations of the book.

Thanks,
Denise

hey denise,

yeah i also tested pos. for all catagories (figures)... tho lately my anxiety hadn't been too bad. i have been doing this for about three weeks now. this is the best i've felt in about 3 years. i'm thinking the diet changes have had the most impact. i didn't realize it but my blood sugar was on a wild rollercoaster ride. it took about a week of strict no sugar or wheat/gluten (ok well, i caved a couple of times) for that to level out. i did have some carb withdrawl but it wasn't bad and i was so pleased with the results a small price to pay.

are you doing any of the dietary suggestions that were in the book? i think they are more significant than one realizes. honestly when i added protein to my diet i noticed a change in the first day.

also she mentions in several spots that it's important to take the multivitamin supplements along with the amino repair supplements... so that's another thing to consider.

and of course she mentions things like worn out adrenals & thyroid problems to investigate if diet/supplements don't do it.

as for taking the aminos i think you just have to experiment. she does give alternatives when a certain amino doesn't work well. and maybe you can think about what symptoms have improved & which ones haven't changed - there can be some clues there. also, i'd be patient & give it a try (at least for the whole bottle of aminos)... i think when we've been outta whack it takes awhile for our bodies to rebalance.

ok - and here's a weird thing that i do when i'm really stuck. i just ask myself for the answer. then pay close attention to things that appear in my world that day (example. wanted to know if a move was gonna happy last year...so i just asked my 'higher self' to show me some kind of a 'sign.' - well, two hours later this guy walks up to my house and plops a for sale sign on my lawn. it turns out he had the wrong house but i took this as my 'sign.' & knew it was time to start packing!)

i hope that helps some... keep me posted on how you do. :D

Hi. Yes, I have been following the diet for a couple weeks - i have cheated a couple times. My difficulty is that I am always hungry and it is a challenge to find things to eat that do not take forever to prepare. I am a stay-home, homeschooling mom of 3 so I stay pretty busy. I do feel better, though, when i am eating well.

I will continue to take the aminos and try to tweak my supplement plan. I appreciate your input. It's always good to hear from others who are taking the same approach.

Thanks for your speedy reply,
Denise
