Topic Title: 5htp and Headaches

Hi My name is Kristen I am 22 years old and I am a University student. I have a question about my condition. Last year I was diagnosed with depression and put on Paxil. After gaining 30lbs I went off. I needed something to keep me from going back into a depressive state. I went on 50mg of 5htp a day. That helped me and got me through the summer, but with the anticipation of returning to school I became extremely anxious and depressed for about the past 2 weeks. So I uped my dose of 5htp to 100mg. Now I feel better, calmer, sleep better, but I have a dull headache that has persisted for the past 4 days, ever since I uped my dose. I am kinda scared this is going to last. Tylenol sort of solves the problem but I am wondering if these headaches are normal and will go away? Thanks So Much for reading this long post! Kristen

I just began using 50 mg of HTP a day, a few days ago. I have been having headaches as well, however, I believe mine are due to stress of the new school year and seasonal allergies. Maybe you are just having some tension headaches? One question I have though is that my tongue is itchy and dry feeling and I have bumps underneath it. My allergies have been acting up so maybe it is that or could it be a side effect. like an allergic reaction. It just started this morning. There goes my hypochondriac self.

I'm really glad I found this site- its good to know there are others like me about. it's interesting about headaches and 5 htp. I'm thinking of coming off it as I have horrndous headaches and feel detached since starting it. The feeling blue and seeing red has improved so I'm really disappointed that I may have to stop taking it. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks

Generally most of the side effects wear off in 6-8 weeks. Perhaps the headaches and your side affects will also.
Good luck
