I was on celexa for 18 months. If I remember correctly, celexa stays in your system for about 3 days so it may be best to avoid taking 5htp until she has had a few days off from celexa...to avoid "serotonin syndrome" which is caused by too much serotonin in her system. This is what I did.
I don't know what advice your wife has been given on weaning off of celexa, but please caution her to take it slowly. I had some pretty irritating withdrawal symptoms that were fortunately just that and not dangerous. But they can be. Mine were headache, stomachache, dizziness, and mood swings. I halved my dosage (10mg) for about 3 months, then went to 5mg for 2-3 weeks, then 2.5 for 2-3 weeks, then 2.5 every other day for a week or so til I stopped. This worked much better than the two times I tried to get off more quickly. The withdrawal symptoms were much milder. It can be a pain trying to cut that little bugger into 4ths but worth it. You can also ask your dr about being prescribed pills with smaller dosages or the liquid celexa.
Best to you both, Denise
