Topic Title: Is this a panic attack?
| | "Is this a panic attack?" , Tue 29 Jul 07:43
I've gotten the so called panic attack. Feeling like I'm losing it mentally.Heart pounding. Now it seems I get very dizzy spell then start panicing. Is this also a panic attack?
I'm scared to take Paxil,Welbuttin,Effexor(spelling?) etc. my doctor wants me to take.He gave me Xanax which I take when I feel the need as from what I read is so addicting.
The dizziness has me worried. Is it more than a panic attack? I am under some heavy stress now but the dizziness comes even at a unstressful moment.

stress can do alot to your body and mental well being. As far as the diziness, sure it could be related to the panic/stress and anxiety.I would def. look into with your doctor though. And BTW please dont go on Effexor.

Thanks for the reply NoOneByDay. On various visits my doctor has me trying different things.I never take take the drugs but say I do and they don't do anything to help.I took the first drug he perscribed Prozac. After a few days the drug gave me headaches.I've been fortunate in my life as headaches were a very rare thing for me.After Prozac he would give me samples and precribe Zoloft,Paxil etc..I'm scared to take those drugs.I never took the Effexor. Xanax seems to work well but I'm afraid I'll get addicted after reading about that drug.I'm supposed to take .5 MG 3 times a day.I take one pill daytime when I feel the need which is often lately. The dizzy thing has me scared. It comes up at any time which needless to say makes me panic. I have a doctor appt today and will tell him again of my situation. All he'll do is try to find another SSRI to have me take.

has your doctor mentioned anything about testing you with a catscan or MRI or anything? i would imagine that if the unexplained diziness persists that he would want to do some test on your brain, sounds scary doesnt it? lol its not though i had them done.Do any of the SSRI's help or worsen with the diziness at all? Because diziness can def. be a side effect of SSRI's.You are not taking anything right now besides the zanax? it could be possible that the zanax is causing the dizzy spells.hang in there, youll find the answer soon enough. If all your doc wante to do is put you on more drugs then you need to find a different doctor, plain and simple.good luck and keep me posted.

Just came back from the Doc a hour or so ago. He feels the dizziness is due to stress.I had a bad panic attack and dizziness about 2 years ago,Went to the emergency room.A catscan, blood and heart monitoring came up normal.Just a bad panic attack that was much worse than previous ones.Haven't had one anywhere near that bad since. Anyway my doc gave me Lexapro samples that I'm afraid to take.I'll probably stay with light use of xanax.

yeah if it has happened before and you've had all the tests and they all came back normal then you can rule out any physical problems, which of course is good. Now you just gotta manage the attacks which can be done it'll just take alot of work and possibly even some medication too.Lexapro I have heard has done good things for people.Have you done any research on it on the net? check into it.I have done alot of research on SSRI's and the ones that seem to have the most problems with side effects and withdrawal are Paxil and Effexor.I took Effexor and lived through a nightmare withdrawal.Do your research def. Lexapro might help you out though. It might take a medication like that to help you get through the dizzy/panick attacks.good luck and keep me posted
