I've been taking about 2-3 50mg pills of 5htp now for about 1/1/2 weeks. I am beginning to notice that after I take it my heart begins to palpitate and I feel edgy, anxious, and my temper explodes. It wears off in about two hours. What is this? Anyone else experienced it? It seems strange that this should happen with something that is supposed to calm you. Should I stop?

Yes, I know exactly how you feel. The first hour after taking 100mg I feel more anxious and edgy. But after the first 2-3 hours, I begin to feel more relaxed and my concentration is better. I hate the anxious feeling after I first take it, but I feel better after a couple of hours. What has worked for me is taking it once every 2-3 days(I have no idea why). The first day I'll feel a little edgy at first, but on the next day I'm a lot calmer.

have you tried to take ativan or something like that?
