Hi guys
I suffer from cronic daily headaches for the last 3-4 years, I was taking up to 40mg of amitriptyline for the past 6 months with no help, so I gradualy stopped it and started taking 5 HTP-50mg 3x a day, it has been now 3 weeks and I don't see any improvement, my questions are: not enough time ? not enough amount ? not working for me ? does anyone out there ever had good results with 5-HTP for cronic headaches (24/7)....thank you

Ooh,it looks like no one has responded to you for a month or so. That sucks. This needs to be a more active forum in order for it to really help people. Yes, there actually are a number of studies which show positive results from 5htp for "vascular" headaches, meaning those which arise from the constriction of the blood vessels around the head, such as migraines. There isn't much evidence that it's helpful for other kinds though. But for vascular headaches, it's been shown to be just as helpful as other serotonin-based migraine medicines. There's a chapter about headaches and 5htp in the book "5htp; the natural way to overcome depression, obesity and insomnia" by Michael Murray. You should check it out!But I can tell you that what he suggests is 200mgs 3 times a day for headaches. So your dose is pretty low. You might start with 100 mgs 3 times a day and work your way up, or you can just go full throttle. Either way should be fine. Good luck. Hope this makes the headaches go away.
