"5-HTP and alcohol" , Wed 26 Feb 02:18

I have been taking 5-htp for about 6 weeks now and everything was going great up until last night. I went out with some friends for a meal and decided to have just half a glass of red wine sipping it very slowly over an hour. Unfortunately, on the way home in the car I started to have an anxiety/panic attack which has left me feeling absolutely dreadful this morning and still on edge. Has anyone else had this sort of experience?

Deja Vu! Tonight...
I read that it is ok to drink 6 hours after taking any form of anti-depressants. I drank before after 6 hours of taking a dose of 5htp and was quite alright... but I had such a lucid nightmare that felt so real when I woke up that I was shaken for hours and couldn't get to sleep.
Today though, I drank only a quarter bottle of beer about 8 or more hours after taking 5htp and I started getting panic attacks. It is not the drug though... it's my head. I was getting nervous about the fact that there might be an interaction with alcohol. I can get panic attacks over anything health related... think I will get heart attacks etc etc. And these panic attacks started about a few years ago when I took an aspirin the day after drinking alcohol. LUcky me, who wants to know all the negatives, reads the back of the bottle AFTER TAKING THE ASPIRIN. It said it can cause stomach bleeding when drinking daily or whatever. I don't drink daily but it shook me up so much that I had a CONSTANT DEBILITATING PANIC/ANXIETY ATTACK that lasted 2 days NO JOKE!!!! Cold sweats, no concentration, hyperventilating, extreme shaking inside my body, couldn't walk, couldn't stand for a long period of time without toppling over, dizzy, no coordination/balance ... finally went to the ER because I thought I was getting a heart attack (I was only 20) or something else from taking the aspirin after having a nice drink the night before. Finally was told after having the works of tests done on me, that it was "stress". Soonafter learned about panic attacks etc. Once I found out my health was fine, the panic quickly dissipated. I was going through a very stressful time a week before this episode though, so it might have torn down my body's defenses for something like this to happen. But after this episode, I still got panic attacks frequently off and on for more than a year... though the periods of time were very short... a few minutes... nothing more than 10 minutes...
Haven't had any panic attacks though for over a year or more until tonight. I overcame the panic/anxiety attacks myself (might probably be because my other worries overpower my previous worries) and started 5htp about a week ago for other reasons. The reason was for social anxiety and depression.
LOL, after writing this long post, my panic and nervousness is gone... excuse this rambling post... good night.
