Topic Title: Latest 5-HTP update

Last week, my anxiety increased tremendously, and it was scary. I was only on 300mg/day of 5-HTP, 500mg/3 times per day of L-Tyrosine, flaxseed oil, and multivitamins (high potency). Up until last week, I was doing fine, then the anxiety crept in...
I upped my 5-HTP to 500mg/day and I have kept everything else the same. I also started taking 300mg/3 times per day of St. John's Wort. I have now been on this new regiment for 4 days now and WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I was so frustrated and my crying and anxiety were getting so bad last week that I almost said "screw it" and went back to Paxil. I am glad I didn't and realized that I needed to up the dosage.
The only thing I'm scared about is: Will my body get used to this new dosage and will I become depressed and have anxiety again? Dupont, what have you noticed - haven't you been on 5-HTP for some time?

Your question is difficult to answer. Will your body get used to this dose? In my opinion, your body uses the "meds" that it needs and breaks down what is not needed for expulsion. I have not found 5htp to be addictive.
Will you have dpression/anxiety again? I'm not sure, it's up to you.
I was on 500 mg of 5htp for about 2 years. It took a lot of work but I beat the depression. Not only with medication, but I also went to therapy, read books about depression, listened to uplifting music, prayed, volunteered and exercised. My point is this, don't just rely on the medication to releive your depression/anxiety you have to change the way you think, get to the root of the problem and fix it.
If you have found the right dose, why not stick with it for a while, as you do the work to solve your problems. Once you have resolved your problems you can begin to reduce the amount of 5htp and other meds you are taking, and you should not have a relapse.
I think it is a part of life to expect to have some bad days. But now I have the tools to pull myself out of it quickly. I hope this helps.

Hi, Dupont:
Thanks for the reply. The regimen I'm on right now is working so well, I can't imagine going back to what I was feeling less than a month ago.
I plan on sticking with this for a while, and in the meantime changing some habits.
