"Progress on 5-HTP" , Mon 16 Dec 20:48

Hello, everyone:

I had made a post on December 6th regarding quitting paxil and starting 5-HTP. Here is my progress...

Well, I was originally on 20mg, so every week I dropped a bit. One week I went down to 10mg, the next to 5mg, then the last week to 2.5mg. After the last week, I stopped Paxil completely for about 4 days. By the fourth day, I could not control my crying at all and would burst into tears just thinking about anything. I also was becoming severely depressed and didn't even look forward to my birthday on the 15th.

I started taking 5-HTP on a Friday night. I started with 50mg, but then that same night I thought that I might benefit from 100mg since I was in such bad shape. The next morning I was still very upset, hated life, etc. That morning I took 50mg, along with several vitamins, which include vitamin C, a multivitamin, vitamin B-12, and vitamin E. Later that day I took another 50mg, then another even later that day.

By about 3:00 p.m. that day, I notice CONSIDERABLE improvement. I no longer felt the need to cry, and I suddenly felt like the world was more of an enjoyable place. I was shocked - it was so sudden. I actually felt like I was on Paxil again, but I wasn't.

The next day I continued the same regimen, but I noticed if I waited to long between doses, I would start to feel the urge to cry again. I have a feeling this has to do with my low dosage and not yet combining it with L-Tyrosine or SJW.

In a day or two I am going to increase my dosage to 300mg/day (100mg, 3 times per day). I am very excited at the progress so far (only two days). I hope I never have to go on Paxil again.

So far I have not noticed any of the known side effects (gastrointestinal or sleepiness). I did notice that after I take it (which is about a 1/2 hour before meals), and if I don't eat anything for a while, I start to get a little shaky (kind of like I have the shivers), but it doesn't last long.
