Hi! Has anyone successfully imported 5-HTP into Australia for personal use? If so, please could you let me know where you ordered it (e.g. from IHerb?) and whether there were any problems (e.g. delays, additional customs charges etc).

Yep, recently imported 10 bottles of 5-HTP from
www.health-pages.com (check them out, really good prices for larger orders), into Adelaide, South Australia. No problems with Customs. However they've recently confiscated my Kava Kava pills, for some bizarre reason.

Kava has been taken off the market in Australia, since about September 15th this year. It's no longer in the shops.

Yep! I ordered some recently from IHerb International (Iherbi.com) and it arrived successfully by post. IHerbi.com was a side venture for IHerb that used standard air post, but the parcels got delayed/lost so they closed down shortly after they started.
You should have no trouble bringing 5-HTP in under the rules of the Personal Import Scheme. Some things like yohimbe and DHEA are restricted, but 5-HTP isn't as far as I recall. So even regular iHerb delivery (DHL) should be fine.

Do you take it with SJW? If so how much 5-HTP do you take - do you take it on top of the 900 mg SJW?

I haven't mixed them yet. I switched brands of SJW and ended up returning to my usual brand. I'll be trying the 5-HTP when this next bottle runs out

Hi Suling,
I take SJW and 5htp together. I take 300mg SJW three times a day, and 50mg 5htp twice a day. I've found this to be more effective than SJW alone. When I first started 5htp I reduced my SJW intake to 600mg, and I only started with 50mg 5htp, then gradually worked both up, with no problem... I don't know if you really need to do that, it was just me being cautious.
For the first few days on 5htp my sleep patterns were really disturbed, and I felt a bit 'wired', like I was buzzing the whole time, and a slight increase in anxiety, but that didn't last long. Some people experience tummy problems but luckily I didn't.
Good luck, and please post how you get on if you decide to take both, as I would be very interested in someone else's experience.

Hi Juju, Hope all is well. I am from Australia and am currently (have been for four years) on 50mg a day of Zoloft for depression and anxiety. I really would like to go natural but am very worried. When I try to cut down the Zoloft I get really really down and out. I am so negative and turn into a real bitch. I have bad anxiety and really go into myself. I feel like I just want to end it all. As you can imagine these are not pleasent feelings and I am so worried about going back to this. I don't think it is wise to mix Zoloft with SJW but I am thinking about cutting it down and adding a little Sam-e. What is your advice on 5-HTP? Can you tell me what you are currently taking, doses and brands? I am hoping to start a family next year and wanted something that was safe during pregnancy. Thank you and very best regards, Tracy
