| | "5htp and interactions with prescribed drugs" , Sun 18 Aug 13:30:
My girl friend who is 60 is very depressed and full of anxiety. She has tried homeopathic solutions without sucess. Her doctor prescribed Paxil which I looked up on the net it has a bad reutation for withdrawls and many side effects. So we are now looking at the possibility of 5Htp and L Theanine as a cure. She is taking the following prescibe drugs Irbesartan for blood pressure Boltin for hormone replacement Zarator for colestoral Lorazepam for anxiety will there be any bad interaction.
5 days no answers come on experts have you no knowledge of the above.

Sorry I'm no expert but I have been perscribed Paxil before and other terrible drugs alike.
My girl suggested 5htp and I've been on it for two weeks now having suffered with panic attacks and axiety problems for two years. I'm thirty yrs old and would love for this problem to become a thing of the past for me. I can tell you that the side effects of Paxil and the "others" can be very bad. I was unable to tolerate any of them as much as I would have liked to.
5htp has already shown some signs of help. My stomach has been a little weird and my sleep pattern as well, but I'll take that initial trade off any day.
I would try it instead of the Paxil. You are already a cool person for helping your girl deal with this crap like my mate. My last girlfriend made me feel like I was being wimpy.
Best of luck to all of us...

Sure.
I really hate this whole anxiety thing, but it's not something that I can just shake....
What I do know is that Western medicine doctors never gave me the time of day because they really don't know much about this stuff. They just look up your symptoms in the back and say "what you need is and anti-depresant. "Oh and chase it down with some Ativan or Xanex".
I know this may sound bitter but it's really true. You have to search out alternative remedies sometimes for certain problems. This is one of them. 5-htp has helped some and has kept me more positive about a problem that can bring your down into negative land really fast.
