Topic Title: Anxiety, 5HTP and Anorexia

Hello,
Last year I received a terrible case of generalized anxiety six months after I went into recovery from anorexia. My doctor tried several meds, but I could not tolerate the side effects (with the exception of trace amounts of Ativan). After six months, I finally starting taking 100mg a day of 5HTP and GABA. I slowly found peace after a few months of this combination! However, I recently had a major life change the anxiety symptoms returned! I have constant stomach pains and a nervous, panicky feeling which interferes with my job and personal life.
After performing some research and discovering your discussion forum, I increased my 5HTP to 300 mg per day (100 mg 3x day) last week. I've also been taking 1000 mg of L-tyrosine first thing in the morning for a month. Yesterday I felt great - no anxiety! However, the panicky feelings returned today, even though I'm still on vacation and had no stressful situations. How long should it take for this recent bout of anxiety to go away, especially since I've been taking 100mg per day of 5HTP for 9months?
The anxiety was so bad that I almost contemplated going back to the eating disorder. However, I'm committed to recovery, and hope that 5HTP and these other natural combinations can make the recovery process somewhat easier now. I appreciate any insight or suggestions. I've also tried Kava and it did not work for me. Thank you!
Apollo

Sometimes an increase in serotonin can cause anxiety. Give your body a couple of weeks to adjust to the new increased dosage. I'm sure you will feel better.

Thank you for your insight. I'll report my progress in a few weeks. I do think that I'm going to go down to 200 mg of 5HTP today, because I had terrible anxiety and had to leave work early. I'm going to give my body a few weeks to get used to this higher dose and then try 300mg.

If its off and on like it seems you are saying, it could just be a placebo affect. You should try and find something that will stabilize you out. Paxil CR or Prozac (generic) are good.
