Well I bought 5htp a couple of weeks ago and haven't started using it yet. But now that I have been off the Xanax for the past couple of weeks, I want to start taking 5htp. Can anyone give me some kind of idea what to expect, when first starting it? I need something to help me out during the day, not so much at night with sleeping. So if taking this in the morning will it make me to tired to work and do my regular routine? I have read most of the posting here and I realize that everyone is different, but I have read that most everyone takes this at night time and it really helps with sleep. But I want to try it for my anxiety and OCD, and I was also thinking of getting kava kava to keep on hand for when I have real bad anxiety days. But I guess my main quesiton is, will I be able to function all day while working without being tired if I take it in the morning? I have been to different sites that everyone suggest, and seen that people take this for weight loss, so I'm figuring it should be okay to take 1 or 2 times a day. The brand that I bought has 50mg of 5htp, 50mg of Valerian Root, 25mg of Magnesium, 5mg of Vitamin B-6 and 5mg of Niacin. I realize I will only be able to figure out what dose is right for me but for just starting out I want to make sure that I can still function at work or should I wait until the weekend to try the 5htp to see how it works. I see that there are plenty of people on this website that take this daily but most of the posting is, that it works great for sleep. And I was just wondering about the people that take this during the morning or afternoon on what kind of effect they get from it, or what you experienced in the beginning. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.... Thank You Bab's

I take 5htp in the morning with a cup of coffee and I'm good until about 3 pm, then I take my second dose. I'm usually in bed between 9 and 10 pm and sleep soundly until 5:30-6am. The 5htp will probably make you tired in the beginning until your body adjusts. Valerian is also a sedative, and will also make you tired.
