I have been taking St. John's Wort for the past couple of weeks but it seems to really upset my gastritis, I have tried to take it with food, and drink plenty of water but its no good. So I want to try this 5htp that everyone is talking about, does anyone seem to have problems with their stomach while taking this, and will it effect my seasonal allergies, the I have heard that St. John's Wort does. I can't seem to find any web sites that states what is actually in the 5htp, to see if it has pollen in it like St. John's does. One more question I see that alot of people take this at bedtime because it helps them sleep. Will this make me tired if I take it twice a day like to bottle says to take it? Thanks for any input..

I too have had the same flare up of gastritis on my third day of sjw..and have been searching for answer.....have you had any luck...after reading almost everything on the internet sjw does cause flares ups of stomach problems....have you tried DGL (deglycernerized licorise....for the gastritis ...its a miracle...so I am getting back on the DGL and will wait for the flare up to subside.....then try "transdermal 5-htp"...or smaller amounts of sjw..the sjw was a miracle for my depression, but the stomach problem is too much....pls write back and tell me of your progress..maybe we can figure this out together since hardly anyone else has reported this....do you smoke? apparently this exacerbates the gastritis..and then the sjw just pushes it over the edge....

5-HTP contains Graffonia seeds. It can really cause stomach and gastrointestinal problems. Most suggest to buy enteric coated capsules.
Hope this helps. Bobbie

I've had severe stomach upset even with the enteric coated tablets, so I wouldn't advise HTP...
