Is it safe to go from 5htp to prozac within a few days? I stopped 5htp because i read that it should only be used for 3 months and i need something long term. it asks on the prozac pack "have you taken recently or are you taking Tryptophan" Is this the same thing as 5htp? It got me thinking that i should not take the prozac with this already in my system.

Hiya Linda,

I think you will find that the main concern will be Serotonin Syndrome (overdose of serotonin).

I took Prozac for a month then changed from one day to the next onto Seroxat on the instructions of my GP.

So..... I would imagine that providing you werent on a high dose of 5-HTP you would be ok. If in doubt, obviously go back to your GP for a chat about this.
