"Buspar and 5-HTP" , Mon 25 Feb 16:21

HI - I recently went off buspar to take 5-htp and although the 5-htp has helped me enourmously with anxiety, I still feel the buspar is missing for me in regard to intrusive memory stuff. I"m not sure - I have been getting a lot of withdrawal headaches too from the buspar leaving mysystem. My question is, does anyone have info on people taking both 5-HTP and buspar? Is it okay to do? I'd like to take both because both helpme in different ways that are important.
thanks for any advice!

hi all -
I just spoke to my psychiatric nurse who told me that I could take Buspar with 5-htp. She said there is a slight possibilty that serontonin syndrome can occur in people who take too much of both together (as in other psych meds). Just thought I'd share this with others who may want to know. The buspar has worked well for me in general with intrusive memories and thoughts but the 5-HTP has provided much more in terms of helping with the anxiety so I'm taking both now and hopefully I'll feel better.

Hiya,

Thanks for the information.

I think on that basis I would play safe, it wouldn't hurt if every so often you had a blood test to check your serotonin levels.

Cheers

Nicky.

thanks, I will do that! I am seeing a naturopathic doctor tommorow to discuss it because I do want to be sure I"m doing the right thing. I haven't been feeling very good since I started the 5-htp (very tired and headaches).

Will keep you updated!

Hello! I was taking BuSpar with ZOloft. I wasnt losing weight, and thought I'd switch to 5-HTp with the Zoloft. I found that I wasnt taking nearly enough 5-HTP. How much are you all taking?
My problem is, that the Buspar gives me MAJOR munchies at night, and I eat way too much late in the evening! Ironically 5-HTP is supposed to curb food cravings....
I am thinking of weaning off the Buspar, since it seems that if I take enought 5 HTP it will help with anxiety, which was the only reason I was taking BuSpar....
Thanks for listening!
