Topic Title: is 5-htp a herbal drug?

I ask this question as I have discovered that here in the Italy, unlike SJW, it is only available on prescription.
I am interested to try it as I find that SJW is not for me (skin allergy, extreme fatigue and aggravated IBS) however I'm afraid if it's just a regular drug and especially so if it could be addictive.

The human body manufactures 5-HTP from L-tryptophan, a natural amino acid found in many dietary proteins. However, eating food that contains L-tryptophan does not significantly increase 5-HTP levels. Supplemental 5-HTP is naturally derived from the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia, a West African medicinal plant.
