"holiday blues won't go away" , Sun 6 Jan 12:48

Hi everyone, I guess I was doing really well until the holidays came up. I was taking 200mg a day and when I started feeling much better I simply stopped taking it, and have been taking 50mg a day only off and on. But I am having major mood swings. I think it's mostly the money issue and the holidays. But I think I have to take 200 mg a day to be ok. I just don't wanna do a thing, have kids to take care of, no energy, cry often, basic signs for me. I know I should exercise but I have *no* energy at all. Any suggestions or support? It's awful feeling this way and I hate it...

the holidays can be so brutal. i tried to gear up for it this year, you know, put my most ultimate self-care tactics into place and all, but i still got slammed. finally made a bit of a break-through last night--took a hot bath and did some stretches and just tried to get some perspective. feeling a bit more hopeful today.

watch out for that 'i should' exercise. you will exercise again, but for now, just listen to your body. maybe it's not ready to exercise yet. be gentle with yourself. take care of yourself. everything will fall back into place. it's just hard to remember that when you're in the middle of it all.

all best--

"Too much exercise makes me worst" , Mon 7 Jan 11:58

HELLO: I used to walk about 40 minutes 5 times a week but that routine didn't work well for me, since some days I felt too hungry and tired, now I will try a 3 times/week 20 minute walking or every other day walking routine, I've noticed that walking everyday can give u stress and stuff

I'm training for a marathon, and I've also found that exercise makes me feel tired. I can't find the energy I need to train.

I bought some Rhodiola Rosea, that is suppose to be great for depression, and give athletes energy and a quick recovery. But I am afraid to take it with 5htp, because Rhodiola Rosea supposedly acts like a MAOI. And from what I have read mixing 5htp and an MAOI might cause heart problems. I'm slowly reducing the amount of 5htp that I take, but I need help now. Any suggestions? I can't take anything with ephedra or a lot of caffeine.

i'm probably not the best person to be giving out advice about how to get energy right now, since i'm so wiped it's hard to do even basic tasks like laundry and grocery shopping (but at least my mood is staying pretty stable, for which i am immensley grateful), BUT back in the days before my system got whacked out and when it behaved like a fairly normal system, i found Siberian Ginseng (extract form, 100-200 mg. around lunchtime) to be a great help on days i was really doing a lot, especially in delaying the onset of fatigue. it did give me a slight headache, but this may not be the case for everyone. also, if you are doing the heavy work of athletic training, be sure (and you may already be aware of this), to give your body lots of antioxidents, especially vit. c & a b/c it needs all the help it can get to clear out the free-radicals while performing so hard.

one thing i DO know to avoid--the thing that will deplete your energy faster than you can say where'd-it-go?--is sugar. especially in a repetetitive, continous cycle. i was was not surprised to see the phrases 'pepsi' & 'hungry & tired' in such close proximty in one of these replies. sugar IS a drug, and it's so easy to underestimate it's power. (not that i'm a saint in this regard! by no means! but i do try to keep aware of how much i'm ingesting & when...)
