can i break the 5-htp tabs in half? i am
extremely responsive at 50mg and the side-effects
are barely tolerable. i would like to try 25mg.
i can't seem to find any 25mg tabs for sale.
i use nature's way enteric coated tabs.
breaking in half will destroy the enteric coating.
does that mean the 5-htp is destroyed in the stomach?
or is the coating just to prevent nausea/vomiting?
i'm not afraid of vomiting, but i wouldn't want my
stomach to metabolize the 5-htp. maybe i should just
take 50mg every two days. suggestions?

I think you should try splitting the tablets in half.

dupont, my side-effects are the same
as what would be expected from SSRI's.

Maybe you don't have a serotonin deficiency...it sounds to me like it is probably a problem with one of the other neurotransmitters.

dupont, your theory may be correct. but the
greater serotonin i get from 5-htp does
help the depression/anxiety. but my side
effects indicate too-high serotonin activity.
i've tried sam-e also and it made me into a
hyper freak and made the insomnia worse.
and it didn't help the depression either.
i believe sam-e has a greater effect on
dopamine. sam-e is cocaine in disguise.

is this brand (lifelink) reliable? have you tried it?
gotta be careful with these unregulated supplements.
also, i noticed the 25mg tabs are sublingual.
i didn't know 5-htp could be absorbed sublingually.
if that were the case, couldn't people avoid the
gastrointestinal side-effects by using the sublingual
delivery method?

I really don't know much for this brand except that they seem to have unusual doze per cap. that you can't find anywhere else. I found this site when I was searching 25 mg of 5htp for my son. But I ended up letting him try the 50 mg (other brand)instead since I didn't want to wait. But they claims that their 5 htp is Pharmaceutical Grade. I really don't have the answer to your other questions. Lets hope somebody else may be able to answer your questions. Good Luck!

Hi Sadperson , enteric coating is to prevent stomach upset .
The 5HTP won´t be destroyed in the stomach (remember that Nature´s Way 5HTP contains vit.C which is slightly acidic too).
