I am currently using bcps and wish to stay on them, however ive just started using SJW and have heard that it lowers the bcp effectiveness, does 5htp lower the effectiveness of the bcp and is 5htp as good at treting depression as sjw??

My question exactly! You are in the same boat as me! I am not real fond of having to double up on birth control, just because my bcp effectiveness level may be lowered. This is why I haven't yet begun to take SJW. I have been researching into 5-htp a little bit, and also from what has been said inside this forum. So far, nothing has been said that it contradicts with the bcp or lowers its effectiveness. Please let me know if you find out anymore, so I can make a decision and finally get on something already! I'm driving my husband crazy! Also, is 5-htp over-the- counter or will I need to see a physician to get access to it?
